Marceline, Missouri
On September
21-23, 2001, Walt Disney's Hometown of Marceline, Missouri will be celebrating
the 100th Anniversary of Walt Disney's birth. Special events are planned
all over Marceline!
Here are
some of the featured events:
Barn
Raising:
Just as the event name implies a barn will be
constructed. But, not any barn! This barn will be
created using the original blueprints of the old Disney
Barn in Marceline. Walt Disney himself recreated his
family's old barn in his Holmby Hills home. He used it
as his workshop for the Carolwood Pacific Railroad which
ran in his very own backyard. Walt's Workshop Barn is
currently in Griffith Park in California at the Los
Angeles Live Steamers.
Disney
School Tours:
Take a tour of Walt's old schools. See where Walt Disney
went to school. During these tours you'll see
interesting items. Such as Walt's old school desk.
You'll be able to see where Walt Disney carved his
initials into the desk.
Disney
Scholars:
Several well-known Disney authors will be in Marceline
for the celebration.
The
Dreaming Tree:
Stop by Walt Disney's boyhood dreaming tree. Have your
photo taken by this special tree. During Walt's early
childhood years, he'd go to this tree and sit by it and
just dream of the future.
Main
Street U.S.A.:
There are not many streets like this anymore! This was
the inspiration for Main Street at Disneyland! Come
decorate a blocklong birthday cake, or take part in the
parade!
Self-Guided
Tours:
Of course, if you prefer to go off and explore Walt's
hometown on your own, you're welcome to do so! Enjoy the sites!
