California Adventure Expansion

EXPANSION PLANS TAKE CENTER STAGE
AS DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE; MARKS ITS FIRST BIRTHDAY; ëFLIKíS FUN FAIR,í ëTWILIGHT ZONE TOWER OF TERRORí ON THE HORIZON

ANAHEIM, CA, February 8, 2002 ñ Plans for new additions to DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE at the DISNEYLAND® Resort in Anaheim, California, were formally unveiled by Cynthia Harriss, President of the DISNEYLAND Resort, during a ceremony in celebration of the parkís first birthday today, Friday, February 8.

Harriss was joined by Barry Braverman, Senior Vice President and Executive Producer, Walt Disney Imagineering, to welcome park guests in the Golden Gateway entrance plaza of DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE. The ceremony marked the first birthday not only of the theme park but of the overall DISNEYLAND Resort expansion, which included Disneyís Grand Californian Hotel® and the DOWNTOWN DISNEY® District of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues.

“Our cast has faced unusual challenges along with the rest of the world,” Harriss noted. “But we have continued to offer what guests have traveled here to find ñ joy, inspiration, relaxation, fun and adventures for kids of all ages. We deem it a great privilege to offer this haven of happiness. This shall always be our most treasured undertaking.”

Harriss observed that continuing growth has been a major theme during the first year in the life of DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE. She noted that additions to the park, just since its opening day in 2001, include the “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire ñ Play It!” attraction, the dynamic live “Power of BLAST!” show, the return of the beloved “Disneyís Electrical Parade” and the holiday “Disneyís LuminAria” presentation.

“Today,” Harriss continued, “itís my special privilege to announce the addition of two new attractions coming to DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE. Scheduled to debut in 2004 in

Hollywood Pictures Backlot is the amazing ëTwilight Zone Tower of Terrorí and coming this fall within a new area called “A Bugs Land” is ëFlikís Fun Fair.í Weíre tremendously excited about these creative additions.

Braverman, who has been involved in the creative development of DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE since its earliest concept stages, acknowledged the work of everyone at the DISNEYLAND Resort and Walt Disney Imagineering, as well as the input of first-year visitors to the new park. “There is an amazing team of talent behind everything we do,” he said. “And thanks to our teamwork, this first yearís been filled with incredible development and growth.”

He marked the birthday occasion by sharing some details of the upcoming additions to the park. First up will be “A Bugís Land” featuring “Flikís Fun Fair,” an all-new playland within the Golden State area of DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE. Inspired by characters and settings from the Disney-Pixar animated film A Bugís Life, “A Bugís Land” will encompass the existing “Itís Tough To Be A Bug” attraction and Bountiful Valley Farm presented by Caterpillar, with the addition of five new attractions in “Flikís Fun Fair,” a specially designed environment which will offer the young and the young-at-heart a look at the world from a bugís point of view.

“Imagine stepping into a place where garden hoses, pebbles and blades of grass take on huge proportions,” Braverman said. “Itís a place where abandoned umbrellas become circus tents and discarded boxes can be made into rides.”

New attractions in “Flikís Fun Fair” are being designed for the enjoyment of parents as well as children. They will include:

    • “Flikís Flyers,” a simulated bug-size hot air balloon ride;
    • “Tuck & Rollís Drive ëEm Buggies,” a crazy drive-it-yourself bug car ride under “P.T. Fleaís” circus tent;
    • “Heimlichís Chew Chew Train,” a miniature railroad ride;
    • “Francisís Ladybug Boogie” aboard spin-ëem-yourself ladybugs; and
    • “Princess Dotís Puddle Park,” a playground themed around a giant-size sprinkler.

“Flikís Fun Fair” and “A Bugís Land” will open to guests of DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE in fall, 2002.

Also coming to DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE, in the Hollywood Pictures Backlot area, is “The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror,” a California version of the chilling and thrilling supernatural adventure which has proven wildly popular at Disney-MGM Studios at Walt Disney World, Orlando, Florida.

Inspired by Rod Serlingís The Twilight Zone, the attraction is set within the spooky halls of the desolate Hollywood Tower Hotel. Guests are invited to retrace the steps of five

previous visitors who disappeared “one dark and stormy night.” An elevator ride up into the

Hollywood Tower is filled with strange apparitions and unsettling sounds, climaxing in a precipitous drop of Ö could it be 13 stories?

“The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror” will open in 2004 in Hollywood Pictures Backlot at DISNEYíS CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE.
